December Calendar
This is the December Calendar that I have creed to ensure that all of my posts are on my log by the desired date and time.
Sunday, 28 December 2014
Props
I did not use any props during the photoshoot as I felt the images would be more successful if they included the model alone rather than with any extra objects. This worked well for me as I have been able to crop the background out of some photos to make the magazine look more consistent but this would've been more difficult and time consuming if I had also featured props.

Practice and Original PS Reflection
Here I have my original practice for another magazine as well as my final magazine cover that I have created. The finished product looks much more professional and it looks much more detailed than the 'Modify' magazine. I prefer the 'Placid' magazine as it looks a lot more professional and holds more details meaning it is a lot more eye catching to the target audience of indie rock fans.

Rationale and Mis-en-scene
This is a link to my goanimate video that i have created to show the rationale and mis-en-scene of my magazine.
I have since added an extra colour to my colour scheme which is a red that is consistent throughout the rest of the magazine.
I have also used an informal tone throughout the magazine as it helps to create a relationship with the reader as they feel as if they are being spoken to rather than reading an article.

Used Photos
These are the photos that I have used in the creation of my magazine. I chose these ones as I thought that they were the best suited to the target audience of my magazine which is indie rock fans. I have used these photos as they seem to be clear and can immediately create a relationship between the viewer and the image as it reach out to them due to the similarities that each image holds.

DPS Peer Feedback
Here is my peer feedback that I have received from people in class.
It is going to help me to notice any intakes I have made and take their suggestions into account when changing the Double Page Spread. This will be able to help to identify the features that will work well in my magazine and the features that won't. Doing this allows me to reach a larger target audience and I will be able to direct the work more originally to my target audience of indie rock fans.

DPS Comparison
This is a DPS taken from Kerrang. I have used this to create my double page spread. I liked how they used columns to keep the text in place which makes t look tidy and organised which will appeal to my target audience as it will be quicker and therefore easier to read. I also like how the background for the photo has been removed and a plain colour has been used in place of it. This makes the image stand out and also makes the text stand out against the clear background as well.

DPS Updates
I have created this while looking at a DPS from Kerrang which allows me to have continuity and for my magazine to be successful.
The use of the sub - images break up the text which makes it seem as though there is a smaller amount of text on the page.
The different colors I have use for my magazine DPS are the same as those used in the other pages which shows continuity and looks professional.
I have also used the pull quote to make the text appear separated again and it also intrigues the reader to find out why something is 'A watch this space kind of thing'.
Update
I have added the extra question and the conclusion with the link to the twitter. This has helped to fill the rest of the page so removing any blank space I had meaning that the magazine won't have any spaces that looks as though they need to be filled. Therefore, my magazine DPS will not look as though it is unfinished.
I have also added a plain purple banner at the top and bottom of the page so it looks we'll presented and finished.
I also added page numbers to the bottom of the two pages which are the same as the contents page which shows continuity for the magazine. The page numbers will also appeal to my target audience as it will make it easier for them to find the article.

Progress
I have realized when reading over my article that one of the questions has been included twice so I need to take one of them out and move the text around for it to fit into the page.
I am also going to add in another question in place of this one as it will add more information and therefore dil the page more with the information so I am not leaving any blank space.
I am also going to add in another question in place of this one as it will add more information and therefore dil the page more with the information so I am not leaving any blank space.
Development
I have now changed the paragraph including the link to a grey colour so it stands out more in comparison with rest of the Q&A article. I prefer this colour as it makes the article look as though it has reached a complete end.
Progress
I have added a conclusion to my article which gives it a sense of an ending. This makes the article look finished and well presented.
Currently the link at the end of the article is in white however, this doesn't stand out well with the rest of the article. Therefore, I am going to change this to a different colour so it will stand out more.

Lesson Objectives
During this lesson, I plan to have finished my DPS article for my magazine. I also plan to have uploaded various screenshots of my work showing what I liked, disliked and changed with my magazine.

Progress
This is the progress I have made during this session. I have finished the Q&A questions but I do have to add a conclusion to the article. I like how it has worked but I do not like the positioning of the sub-images as they are very small but do not leave any room to be filled around with text.
Update
In today's session, I plan to finish the textual information that I have already started on the double page spread. I all, want to check what I have already wrote for spelling and grammar.

Progress
This is the start of my DPS. I like the colors that I have used for this. The layout looks professional at the moment and I pal to continue with this theme throughout.
Todays session
During this session, I plan to have started the basics for my D.P.S. I also want tonsure that all posts are up to date and are correct.

Contents Page Comparison

For inspiration for my contents page, I looked at one from Mojo, the Music Magazine. I liked the layout of it as all the main images were situated together, at one side. This made the page look tidy and easy to read which would appeal to my target audience of indie rock music fans.
I also like the inclusion of the 'editor's note' at the bottom of the page as it gives credit to the creator of the magazine and gives people an insight into what they did in order to create their part of the magazine.

Contents Page Progress
I have progressed to create my editor's note. I have wrote about one of the articles that is featured explaining what is to be included in it. I have also made a light purple box surrounding the images on the left so they stand out more. When the box was not there, I thought that they faded into the background and therefore, were not clear enough for people to see if they buy my magazine.

Contents Page Progress
This is the finished text that I am using on the contents page. Currently, I like how the text is displayed however, I may change some of the articles that I am featuring to include other more well known artists.
Lesson Plan
During this lesson I plan to continue to type up the different articles that are going to be featured on the contents page. I kept the colour change that I completed the previous lesson as I think it is the best colour that I could use in my magazine in order to stay with the same magazine colour scheme.

Progress - Contents Page
I disliked the colour of the text that I originally used in my previous post about the contents page. When I added more text, it looked as though the page had too much white and none of the text stood out in comparison with others. I have changed it to a dark purple as it still stands out on the page but it is also different to the white text that has been used for titles.

Contents Page Progress
This session I have started to create my contents page.
I have kept with the colour scheme I planned to use before and it has worked well up to now for my magazine. I have added the pictures in that I want to have featured. I have placed all of the boxes in the right place and I am happy with the colours that I have used for them.

Front Cover Update
I am happy with what I have created as I think it would appeal well to the target audience due to the colours I used. Also, the clarity of the dominant image is good meaning that it is easier to see and therefore more appealing to the audience. I also like the positioning of the text as it is at the side meaning that you end up looking at the whole page rather than just one section. To attract more people, I put the 'win' shout out at the left due to people reading from left to right so it would attract a reader and encourage them to buy the magazine for the chance to win the tickets. This also increases the popularity of my magazine.

Progress
This session, I have changed the colours of some of the text on my magazine to make it appear to be lighter. I also, changed the colour of some of the text boxes so they are lighter and stand out more.
Despite not planning on doing so, I changed the size of the main cover line to make it bigger and therefore more noticeable as I thought it did not stand out as much after I had changed the colour of the background boxes.
Target
During today's session, I plan to check the spelling, punctuation and grammar on my magazine. I also want to change the colour of some of the text featured as I think, overall, the magazine looks very dark which does not fit in with my chosen genre.

Front Cover Comparison
I used the front covers from Q magazine, Mojo magazine and NME magazine to inspire the creation of my front cover.
I used Q magazine as a base idea for the dominant image:

I used Q magazine as a base idea for the dominant image:

I liked how with the image, the face was the focal point therefore meaning that more people are more likely to notice the magazine due to the person featured being very clear and easy to recognise.
I used Mojo Magazine for the positioning of the text:
I liked how the text was kept around the face and did not overlap on the face keeping it easy to see. I also liked how the masthead was behind the dominant image as I think it shows that the magazine is well known which means that my magazine would be sold to more people.
I used NME magazine for the use of the boxes behind the text that is featured:
I used this method as I thick it helped to make the writing clearer due to having a black background. Without these boxes, I would not have been able to use my colour chime as the colors would not have shown up well on the black background.

Progress
During next session I plan to create a comparison post for the magazine front cover to ensue that I have stayed within my plans for the magazine.

Reflection
This lesson, I have managed to add the the cover lines and the essential information along with the sub-images and I have also added a shoutout about winning tickets to engage my target audience more and encourage them to buy the magazine.
Magazine Update
In today's lesson, I plan to add the cover lines to my magazine and add the essential information that I hadn't completed in last lesson.
Monday, 3 November 2014
Front Cover Progress
This is the start of the front cover that I am creating for my magazine. To make the magazine seem as though it is more popular, I have made the masthead stand behind the dominant image. I have also started to create my essential information section however, next lesson I plan to add some social media websites to make it more accessible by a larger audience.

This is a link to all of the photos that I have taken for my magazine. I do not intend to use all of the photos featured as there is too many to be used. The photos I have taken appeal to my target audience as some of them include clothing that is often worn by fans of indie rock music and the other photos include music acts that are included in the genre. I will not be using all of these images as some of them did not come out as well as expected and a few could be associated with other magazine genres meaning that the images would not increase the target audience as much as they could.

Clothing Progress
Follow Natalie's board Fashion on Pinterest.
I have created a pinterest board that includes the various styles that people who enjoy indie rock music are often found in. I have done this as it helped with the development of information for my magazine so I am aware of what would appeal most to my target audience of indie rock music fans.

Semiotics
There are signifiers used throughout my magazine that help to create the signified finale of a magazine aimed at indie rock fans. Semiotics comes into place at this point as all the features in my magazine all refer to the target audience and they help to engage the audience to ensure that they will enjoy and purchase the magazine.

October Calendar

Weather Forecast
This is the weather forecast for Saturday 1st November. I have chosen this day as it is the only day that is not raining on the night for the following few days. Also, as it is cloudy this works well for my magazine as I need the hoots to have a dark background and for the flaw to be the only main source of light in my photos. It also has an early sunset at 16:03 so there will not be any strong light affecting my photos during the photo shoot.

Photo shoot organisation
I have contacted my model through text to confirm that she will be available at the time I have chosen. I also indicated what I would like her to wear and look like (make up, hairstyle etc.).

Double Page Spread Images
These are some images that are typically found on a double page spread article. They often include the artist(s) using indirect mode of address but occasionally using direct mode of address. This depends on the impression the photographer and artist want to give the reader.
When choosing the photos, I will pick the ones that are most suitable to the information in the article and how I want the readers to view the artist.
Contents Page Images
Here are some images typically found on a contents page. I have found these by studying various contents pages from different magazines and then searching for images that are similar to the images most commonly seen.
By doing this, it helps me to quickly identify which photographs would be suitable for the contents page ensuring that they fit in with other contents pages found in other magazines.
Front Cover Images
Here are some examples of typical dominant images seen on the front cover of a magazine. When choosing the image for my front cover, I intend to look at these images and choose the original image that looks as though it would fit in with these other images the most.
Some of these images include the artist(s) using a direct mode of address but others include artists using an indirect mode of address. This allows me to have a larger variety of suitable images to choose from.

Flat Plans
These are the flat plans that I have created as a base for my magazine. I am going to try to keep as close to these as possible as it looks well organised and well presented. I have ensured to include all information that I intend to use so I am able to stay as accurate as possible with my creation.

Angles
These are the different angles that I could potentially use in my magazine photo shoot. I will ensure to use the angles that are most beneficial to my genre and are most likely to engage the target audience.
Shots
Here are the various camera shots that can be used for when I complete the photo shoot for my college magazine. I am more likely to use a close up shot for the front cover and a variety of different shots for the contents page and double page spread. However, I will not use an extreme long shot at all in my magazine as the artist I am photographing will not be clear and therefore will not appeal to my target audience of indie rock music fans.
Lighting
This is the various lighting techniques that I could use during my photo shoot for my magazine. The style I am most likely to use is natural lighting as it fits well with my genre. However, if this is not possible, I plan to use ambient lighting instead.

Preliminary Task - Peer Assessment
This is the peer feedback that I have been given for my preliminary task of creating the front cover and contents page of a college magazine. When creating my own magazine, I will ensure to take this information into account and ensure to make my magazine following by what I received as my feedback.

Preliminary Task - Unused Photographs
Here are the photographs that we did not use in the preliminary task for the college magazine. The images here were not suitable because they would not allow for a lot of text to be placed on or around them therefore the detail required would not be able to be seen clearly.
Unused Photos 1
Unused Photos 2
Unused Photos 3
Preliminary Task - Contents Page
This is the contents page that I have created in a group for the preliminary task. I think to make it better I could've made the information near the images in bold so they stand out more making them more noticeable.
I think the strap line at the bottom is good as it hooks the reader encouraging them to continue to find access to these magazines. I also like the background as it includes the college colours so it can be easily associated with this college.
Preliminary Task - Front Cover
This is the front cover that I have created, in a group, for my preliminary task. The photography was harder than I expected it to be as it was hard to create an image that was both interesting and fitting to the purpose. It was also difficult to ensure that the image did not appear stretched when it was placed on the cover.
If I were to change anything, I would change the size of the extra information underneath the other cover lines so it was larger making it easier to read and more noticeable.
When creating the front cover, we had a plan to ensure that everything would be completed in time. I also think that the layout of the magazine is organized and looks professional which will increase the chances of students, the target audience, picking up the magazine.

College Magazine Flat Plan - Contents Page
This is the flat plan created for the Contents Page of the College Magazine. I plan to refer to this as I create the page to ensure I stay on track with my plan. This will help to make sure my magazine is created to the be the best quality that I can make it.
College Magazine Flat Plan - Front Cover
This is the flat plan that I have created for the college magazine front cover. I plan to keep checking back to this plan to make sure that everything continues the way it was intended to do so.
I decided to use the dominant image as the background for the cover as I think it will be the most efficient to attract the attention of the reader and the image fits well with the genre of the magazine.

Facial Expressions
These are the different facial expressions that have been identified by Millum and Ferguson when looking at different aspects of womens magazines. This has helped me to identify the different facial expressions I wish my model to portray during the photo shoot.

Location Scout
This is my location scout that I have completed for my coursework. I first uploaded these images onto flickr:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/127577022@N05/
I have decided that I will use this location for my photo shoot as it includes exactly what I need for it. I intended for my photo shoot to be in dark lighting and to be in a park.
I am using this location as it is often associated with my target audience as they often attend concerts or festivals that are situated in grassy areas such as parks. I have done this because my genre is indie rock music which is also associated with festivals and coverts in grassy areas.

Practice Magazine Advert
This is the advert for the practice magazine that I have created. It displays what is included in the magazine emphasizing the main points of it. It shows that it is a collector's edition. I have featured what I believe are the main sell points of the magazine that will help to make it more noticeable.
Practice Magazine
This is my practice magazine for my AS media. I have used a plain white background to help to emphasize the dominant image and the text that I have featured. The text is in various shades of red so it is continuous and stands out in comparison to the dominant image. I have used £3.00 as the price for this particular magazine as I think it is reasonable and would be willingly paid by many.

Reader Profile
This is my reader profile for my magazine that I have created. This shows what the readers that I aim to target enjoy. This will help me to make my magazine more suited to the audience and will help e to include different aspects that would encourage the potential readers to buy it.
Producing this reader profile has helped me to identify what people would prefer to see in a magazine therefore helping met with the creation of my double page spread. I also know that over 50% of people attend concerts so I am able to add a 'win' section on the cover page advertising tickets to a concert. I know that by doing this, it will encourage more people to purchase my magazine.

NME Reader Profile
This is NME's reader profile. I have looked at it and took notice of the different features that are relevant to my magazine in order to make my magazine appear to be at it's best possible standard.
Looking at this reader profile has given me an idea of the questions that I should feature when I am gathering information for my own. I know to feature questions regarding the hobbies and the social status of someone in my survey.

Fonts
These are the possible fonts that I have chosen to feature in my magazine. Some of them would work well and some would not. I do not want to use a large variety of fonts because my magazine would then not be continuous and would not be enjoyable to read.
This is the font I am going to use for the cover lines on the front cover. It is easy to read and looks organized. This would appeal to my target audience and would stand out on a shelf against other magazines as the information would be easy to read.
For the masthead I found a font called 'Plane Crash' on dafont.com
I think that it would appeal to my target audience as it is clear but also looks roughened and dark which is how indie rock is described.
