Contents Page Comparison

For inspiration for my contents page, I looked at one from Mojo, the Music Magazine. I liked the layout of it as all the main images were situated together, at one side. This made the page look tidy and easy to read which would appeal to my target audience of indie rock music fans.
I also like the inclusion of the 'editor's note' at the bottom of the page as it gives credit to the creator of the magazine and gives people an insight into what they did in order to create their part of the magazine.

Contents Page Progress

I have progressed to create my editor's note. I have wrote about one of the articles that is featured explaining what is to be included in it. I have also made a light purple box surrounding the images on the left so they stand out more. When the box was not there, I thought that they faded into the background and therefore, were not clear enough for people to see if they buy my magazine.

Contents Page Progress

This is the finished text that I am using on the contents page. Currently, I like how the text is displayed however, I may change some of the articles that I am featuring to include other more well known artists.

Lesson Plan

During this lesson I plan to continue to type up the different articles that are going to be featured on the contents page. I kept the colour change that I completed the previous lesson as I think it is the best colour that I could use in my magazine in order to stay with the same magazine colour scheme.

Progress - Contents Page

I disliked the colour of the text that I originally used in my previous post about the contents page. When I added more text, it looked as though the page had too much white and none of the text stood out in comparison with others. I have changed it to a dark purple as it still stands out on the page but it is also different to the white text that has been used for titles.

Contents Page Progress

This session I have started to create my contents page.

I have kept with the colour scheme I planned to use before and it has worked well up to now for my magazine. I have added the pictures in that I want to have featured. I have placed all of the boxes in the right place and I am happy with the colours that I have used for them.

Front Cover Update

I am happy with what I have created as I think it would appeal well to the target audience due to the colours I used. Also, the clarity of the dominant image is good meaning that it is easier to see and therefore more appealing to the audience. I also like the positioning of the text as it is at the side meaning that you end up looking at the whole page rather than just one section. To attract more people, I put the 'win' shout out at the left due to people reading from left to right so it would attract a reader and encourage them to buy the magazine for the chance to win the tickets. This also increases the popularity of my magazine.

Progress

This session, I have changed the colours of some of the text on my magazine to make it appear to be lighter. I also, changed the colour of some of the text boxes so they are lighter and stand out more.
Despite not planning on doing so, I changed the size of the main cover line to make it bigger and therefore more noticeable as I thought it did not stand out as much after I had changed the colour of the background boxes.

Target

During today's session, I plan to check the spelling, punctuation and grammar on my magazine. I also want to change the colour of some of the text featured as I think, overall, the magazine looks very dark which does not fit in with my chosen genre.

Front Cover Comparison

I used the front covers from Q magazine, Mojo magazine and NME magazine to inspire the creation of my front cover.

I used Q magazine as a base idea for the dominant image:

I liked how with the image, the face was the focal point therefore meaning that more people are more likely to notice the magazine due to the person featured being very clear and easy to recognise.

I used Mojo Magazine for the positioning of the text:

I liked how the text was kept around the face and did not overlap on the face keeping it easy to see. I also liked how the masthead was behind the dominant image as I think it shows that the magazine is well known which means that my magazine would be sold to more people.

I used NME magazine for the use of the boxes behind the text that is featured:

I used this method as I thick it helped to make the writing clearer due to having a black background. Without these boxes, I would not have been able to use my colour chime as the colors would not have shown up well on the black background.

Reflection

This lesson, I have managed to add the the cover lines and the essential information along with the sub-images and I have also added a shoutout about winning tickets to engage my target audience more and encourage them to buy the magazine.

Magazine Update

In today's lesson, I plan to add the cover lines to my magazine and add the essential information that I hadn't completed in last lesson.

Front Cover Progress

This is the start of the front cover that I am creating for my magazine. To make the magazine seem as though it is more popular, I have made the masthead stand behind the dominant image. I have also started to create my essential information section however, next lesson I plan to add some social media websites to make it more accessible by a larger audience.

Photos

This is a link to all of the photos that I have taken for my magazine. I do not intend to use all of the photos featured as there is too many to be used. The photos I have taken appeal to my target audience as some of them include clothing that is often worn by fans of indie rock music and the other photos include music acts that are included in the genre. I will not be using all of these images as some of them did not come out as well as expected and a few could be associated with other magazine genres meaning that the images would not increase the target audience as much as they could.

Clothing Progress

Follow Natalie's board Fashion on Pinterest.

I have created a pinterest board that includes the various styles that people who enjoy indie rock music are often found in. I have done this as it helped with the development of  information for my magazine so I am aware of what would appeal most to my target audience of indie rock music fans.

Semiotics

There are signifiers used throughout my magazine that help to create the signified finale of a magazine aimed at indie rock fans. Semiotics comes into place at this point as all the features in my magazine all refer to the target audience and they help to engage the audience to ensure that they will enjoy and purchase the magazine.
